Each class will start with a warm up and stretch to help improve conditioning and flexibility. Warming
up and stretching is important to help prevent injuries in any sport.
You will learn the basic rules of fencing as well as safety rules and the importance of protective
gear.
Beginners will develop a basic vocabulary and movements of fencing:
Advance Attack
Bouting Counter Attack
Defense Engagement En Garde Lunge
Parry Retreat Riposte Salute
The different weapons and history of fencing is explored. The beginning class uses foils but all on-going
fencing is done with epees.
Skills are introduced and practiced with rotating partners. When beginners are ready they will bout
with other students. All instruction is under the supervision of accredited instructors. Bouting will also
teach the scoring of fencing competition.
